Southern WagonDo you remember 1954? It was quite some time ago. Billy Joel can sum it up quick: “Roy Cohn, Juan Perón, Toscanini, Dacron, Dien Bien Phu Falls, Rock Around the Clock”. In case some of those names sound a bit too distant (or totally unheard of to the younger crowd) let me make it a bit clearer: “I Love Lucy” was the #1 show on television in 1954. Coincidently, 1954 is also the year that Plymouth introduced the Plaza as its mid-priced line of cars.
Masterpiece is proud to offer a 1954 Plymouth Plaza Suburban for your consideration. This ’54 Plymouth had a frame-off restoration in the past 3 years and was a very meticulous process from the ground up over a 3-year period. The Plymouth has only gone 150 miles since it was built. The paint and body work is smooth and the lines and gaps are straight and correct. To look at this rare wagon you wouldn’t think it was 63 years old, but yes, it is. The two-tone paint are the colors from a late 1980’s Chevy, sand beige and the top is a medium sand beige and makes the 63-year-old wagon look bright and new, and the bright work helps to make it sparkle in the sunshine.
When you open the door to slide into the driver’s seat you are met with an interior that was done with as much care as the exterior. The interior is done with the same colors as the exterior sand beige, medium sand beige alligator, leather, and suede. When the Plaza was restored they kept much of the same 1954 look for the dash but added an aftermarket AM/FM/CD stereo radio and Vintage air conditioning to help add some of the present-day comforts for when you take the wagon out for a spin or go to the local car show. Turn the key to start up the engine and you hear the subtle rumble of the 318ci Magnum V8 from an ’01 Dodge truck paired with the rebuilt 46RE 4-Speed automatic overdrive transmission. Lift the hood and you will be impressed with look under the hood, the engine compartment has the same look and finish as the rest of the wagon. Clean and very well detailed for shows. By the way the ’54 Plymouth did win shows, it has trophies from 4 shows; 2 trophies for best interior and 2 trophies for best of show.
Down to some final details this rare wagon had a couple of other upgrades, the rear end is from and S10 Blazer and the front end is from a 69 Camaro. This ’54 Plymouth Plaza Suburban came from a Midwest private collection where it has spent all of its time in a climate controlled warehouse. It was originally a southern car until the collector purchased it for their collection.

Description.-
Do not let GM fool you - the best Suburbans were made by Chrysler! This 1956 model is a rare and special example of that fact a car that set the standards for those that followed in its wake.
Plymouth had several Trim packages in the 1956 Station Wagon Class - this one is a well appointed Belvedere indeed...!
Outfitted with a 3-Speed Manual transmission and mechanical Overdrive Module this car is both 'Sporty' to drive and a fully functional 'Grocery-Getter'. The big V8 has absolutely no problem hauling its mid-sized Frame around and has lots of Power at Highway speeds for keeping up on Alberta roads.
1956 was an Iconic year for Suburban Station Wagons as well! The two-tone Paint job is truly unsurpassed and the freshened up Brown metallic on this one makes it better than a brand new one to the eye. This was the last year of the Single Headlamp at Plymouth and the first for 12-Volt Power.
For modern features this car boasts huge forward-looking Fins with the same Inserts as the famous Chrysler 300 Racing Series cars a wrap-around Windscreen Eyebrows on the front Quarter Panels Aviator Hood Ornament and other Virgil Exner design features that set the Industry standard.
Retro features also make this an important 'Transition' car in particular the massive complex and gorgeous Chrome Grille that had soon been replaced by Tin on most cars.
But this particular vehicle survived and had been freshened with a brand new coat of Paint by the previous owner who displayed it for years at the Auto Gallery Museum in Chicago. It is also featured in the 'Hooniverse Online Station Wagon' magazine as a superior and important vehicle and is sure to garner praise for any Collection it is part of in the future.
This is not just a Collector's car (not like the one at the Auto Museum at Heritage Park in Calgary). This vehicle is a lot of fun to drive - the rear Seats fold flat and the Tailgate lays down creating a massive Deck for Camping or Transporting supplies. She sits on brand new Coker Whitewall tires and also comes with a current Inspection showing absolutely no Mechanical Deficiencies and is ready for Summer trips and Parades as well!
Note. It is quite rare that any car combines old and brand new Sport Cargo and Curb appeal as well as this - truly a unique and special car for an investor with Chrysler in mind to take home and enjoy.
This is a must see American Classic and everything within works well
